Several Injured as Rough Air Strikes Delta Aircraft into Sydney, Australia

Delta Airlines reported the aircraft went through "brief turbulence" as it landed at Sydney Airport.

Several people were hurt after a Delta Airlines flight originating in LA to Sydney was hit by rough air Friday morning.

Flight DL41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson told. Four flight attendants required medical attention.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated five patients, and took three to hospital with relatively minor issues that such as pain in the back and head pain. The injured ranged from their 30s to 70s.

This marks the latest incident of planes experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with experts saying that global warming is a key driver.

There were 245 people and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the representative added, stating that the plane landed "without further incident" at the airport at 06:48 local time on Friday.

Paramedics reported they were alerted just three minutes ahead of the plane arrived, and emergency vehicles were waiting on the tarmac.

The reasons turbulence is becoming increasingly prevalent - and potentially more dangerous.

Last year, twenty-five passengers and crew sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight, travelling from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, encountered "significant" atmospheric disturbance just a couple of hours into the lengthy trip, and was forced to make an precautionary landing.

Recently, travelers and staff on a Singapore Airlines jet went through a harrowing five seconds of severe turbulence. An individual passed away and numerous people sustained injuries, as unbelted passengers lifted out of their seats and were slammed back.

Turbulence is not uncommon while flying, and while cases of strong or severe turbulence seem to be rising, they are remained quite uncommon.

As climate change shifts atmospheric conditions, experts warn that commercial aviation could become less smooth: temperature changes and changing jet streams in the higher altitudes are projected to heighten the regularity and severity of dangerous in-flight bumps.
